The end of 2012 for me was a mixture of emotions; happiness and excitement for the Christmas festivities that were upon us, eager to see Fin and Imogen’s face on the all important date and utterly looking forward to a nice break! And on the complete other hand I was sad and disappointed that my lovely job in the Next Press Office had come to an end – sad face! I had found the work – life balance really healthy and had enjoyed my 2 and a half days in a fab office, surrounded by all things fashion and the kids had really settled into the routine of mummy working.
So the start of 2013 saw me slipping back into full-time mummy-hood. Don’t get me wrong, I was really looking forward to getting to spend more time with the kids. Fin goes to the school nursery every afternoon now and Imogen has just started pre-school so of course the very first thing I had to organise was sorting out my Fashion PR wardrobe to fit into the ‘school run’ wardrobe – without making it look too mumsy or too fashion!! These mothers at the school gates can be quite intimidating don’t you know!!
The VERY best buy of AW12 for me was a pair of Next brown 2-in-1 Chelsea/riding boots – basically they started life as a Chelsea boot but by adding a long leather cuff that fastens under the foot you can walk away in a pair of fab riding boots. I absolutely live in them (oh and my Next mink check coat – btw still available at an absolute snip at £40 at next.co.uk/clearance) and they are just perfect for every outfit, in fact my only regret is that I didn’t buy them in the black as well!
But it’s all very well still huddled up in cosy knits and layer upon layer of winter thermals (I really don’t blame you though – this weather is practically depressing!) I just need some colour in my life, colour and a little hint of spring maybe – is that really too much to ask?! That’s why I have recently taken in a delivery of loveliness from Next in the form of the daisy lace top (just the cream for now but I absolutely know this top will be my spring fav and I’ll have to order it in all colours! I’ll just fling it on with anything and it will look fab!), the cream trench coat (this will be THE buy of the season and will be so easy to wear) and as soon as the mercury hits somewhere above zero I shall be swapping my brown Chelsea boots (as I wipe away tears!) for the laser cut ballerinas.
But whilst I patiently wait for the temperature to rise (I will layer up my daisy lace top in the meantime!) I too will wait patiently at the school gates in my ‘not so mumsy yet no so fashion’ wardrobe! I hope it goes down well…watch this space…!
