When we think about summer, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the changes we need to make to our wardrobes – but what about our homes?? Our NEW Horizon collection – inspired by a Southern Asian island retreat, has left us totally head over heels and yearning to transform our living space into a tropical beach haven. If you’re thinking that sounds like a lotta work, think again – it’s possible in 3 easy steps, which we’ve outlined below…
1. Let there be light
The best thing about summer is the almost-infinite daylight and spending long balmy evenings outside (until we’re beaten by the chill of the clear starry sky and forced to retire indoors). This summer, why not carry on that light and airy feel throughout your home? The easiest, most effective way of doing this is by white-washing your walls. All-white walls allow light to reflect and bounce around the room and therefore creates the illusion of more space. Even rooms you’d written off as boxy and cramped can be transformed with a simple lick of paint!
For those of you who baulk at the idea of floor to ceiling white, don’t cross us off just yet. It’s easy to add a dose of summer to your home with indigo blues and clashing tile prints. Combined with whites and wood it very quickly starts to resemble an island retreat! Use prints to add interest – our favourite is a blue and white tile print that features on everything from crockery to cushions. Block greens and blues will also punctuate the white backdrop and provide just the right amount of colour so there’s no risk of your home looking sterile and boring!
2. Under the sea
The Horizon collection is inspired by islands in South Asia so naturally the sea is a big influence. From the deep blues which are so prevalent throughout to spray effect glassware and sea creature accessories – there are plenty of nods to the ocean which will help refresh your interior. One of our top picks is this Blue Coral Print Cushion – it’s going to look 👌🏼 alongside these rattan Cali Dining Chairs. If you’d like the retreat vibe to be more land-based than water, take inspiration from traditional island huts by opting for slatted blinds and wooden floors. It gives you more licence to get creative with rugs then too…
3. Bring the outdoors in
There are MANY more ways to get your home summer-ready, but for this post – we’re finishing on bringing the outdoors in. For something as simple as introducing some greenery into your home – the results are so effective! Now we’re not suggesting it has to be real plants… there are endless dupes available now and it’s almost become a no-brainer opting for the faux-variety. How green to go is entirely up to you. You might like to make your new plant a focal point and opt for something large like a Ficus, or choose something subtler like our Set of 3 Herb Pots – both will offset the blues and white, and ultimately make your home feel happier! (That’s a fact…!).
