One thing that becomes abundantly clear when summer is over is how bare legs provide the perfect, uncomplicated accompaniment to a LOT of looks. A flash of flesh is a nice contrast against a denim skirt or boho dress but is something you just don’t get with a pair of 60 denier tights. However this month we’re in luck. For October, it’s actually very mild and when a busy commute is an unavoidable fate – going sans-tights is a welcome move. Here are our top tips for doing so this autumn…

An arsenal of sweater dresses is essential for staying bare-legged. The undeniable warmth that comes from a long sleeve knit dress – coupled with the omission of tights – acts like an air conditioning system for your body. During the 9-5, it’s often very difficult to find an outfit that complements your commute and 8 hours at your desk, but choosing a knit dress and then swerving on the tights is a very effective (and chic) combination.

Multiple layers are another way to counter the cooling effect of bare legs throughout the autumn months. Whereas in summer you’ll have been layering your cami dress over a slogan tee, this season – swap the tee for a fine knit jumper! There are endless options to choose from – from everyone’s favourite pillar box red polo neck (wear under black for a high contrast nod to festive dressing) through to olive and white stripes (which look super cool against denim).

Our favourite thing about autumn (aside from the annual new coat purchase), is replenishing our knitwear collection. Chunky knit jumpers are par for the course when we’re into October and this season, it’s all about supersizing your sweater. There’s no layering to be done here though, the jumper is your hero piece and should be big enough that wearing a coat seems OTT. Our go-to way of wearing is a cable knit nonchalantly tucked into a check skirt with a cross-body bag and western ankle boots.

If baring all in October just seems TOO weird, here’s one place we can meet in the middle. Over the knee boots are almost like wearing trousers – almost – and when teamed with a dress or skirt, only really reveal the middle section of thigh (if you’ve opted for a mini). They’re ideal for jumper dresses (ref: point no.1) but also help elevate your look as there’s something sooo sassy about a pair of OTK’s. If you’ve never worn a pair before, trust us when we say they are WARM! Not sure how you feel about them? There are plenty of knee high options to pique your interest…
