Turning 3-Oh!
I have never been worried about age (being one of the youngest amongst my friends helps no doubt!). I’ve always seen age as just a number so joining the 30 club shouldn’t be a problem…should it?! Not that I thought anyway. Unlike any other birthday the talk starts weeks before; what are you doing? How are you celebrating? How do you feel? It completely took me by surprise but suddenly I started to actually worry about turning the big 3-0. I mean, what was I going to wear and what was I going to do to celebrate?
Thankfully my perfect other half was up to the challenge and whisked me away for the weekend. Fin and Imogen enjoyed a stay in sunny Bournemouth with my brother, sister-in-law and my gorgeous nephews while our ‘surprise’ destination was Bath and as we checked into the most fabulous Brindley’s Boutique B&B I suddenly realised my weekend of relaxation and pampering had begun!
The Roman Baths Spa: check, the fashion museum: check, wine tasting: check, endless shopping: check…the list goes on and to top it off? No, not the most amazing pair of diamond earrings (which, don’t get me wrong, came a very close second!) the very moment I got asked for ID when I ordered a few alcoholic beverages in the centre of Bath…30? No not me!
After an excellent weekend we couldn’t wait to get back to our little ones, they’d spent their time on the beach and had clearly thoroughly enjoyed themselves…an early bedtime with no arguments was a sure sign of this…!
Once the actual day of my birthday arrived I was so out of surprises that when the biggest of them all came – I was lost for words; I’d gone out for a quiet lunch with Dave and the kids only to arrive back home to a surprise garden party! My whole garden (complete with washing on the line that I’d put out earlier in the day!) was full of my dearest friends and their kids OD’ing on sweets and cakes and basically anything they could get their hands on that wasn’t remotely a) healthy or b) filling! Once the novelty of the sweets had past, the bouncy castle got a seeing to and then a water fight! Needless to say all the kids slept well that night – including me! I had absolutely no idea…of course it adds up now; Dave did partake in a small amount of washing up that morning and I even saw him putting some toys away so really alarm bells should’ve been ringing!!
So after copious amounts of celebrating I officially entered the 30 club. What had I learnt? Always carry your ID and never trust a man that does unexpected washing up…!
