The Sleepy Citrus Fruit Monster!
As I am now well into the third trimester of my pregnancy, little junior is defiantly making its presence known. I’ve always loved my sleep but now I find I have to go to bed at least an hour earlier than usual in order to get enough – as I’m simply up that many times in the night! The baby is certainly a nifty little mover- it will give Louie Spence a run for his money in the high kicks stakes I tell you! I often feel a hand or foot protrude from my stomach. It’s also pressing heavily on my bladder so I’m always up for the toilet several times and then there’s the cramp! Ahhh! It feels like someone is bashing my legs constantly with little hammers and what with my bump being so big – I can’t even rub them properly without falling flat on my back again. Never mind, I’m sure this sleep deprivation is good practice for when the baby arrives. Robin and I are sure to have plenty of sleepless nights!
I’ve found that taking Cookie for an extra long walk and having a nice warm bath helps me feel sleepier and drift off quicker! I do love a hot bath… though as my midwife did say – we don’t want a boiled baby so I’ve had to tone those down a tad. Thankfully my bath has handles on it so as I get more whale-like in proportion, I need those to help me get out without pulling at the taps for dear life!
I mentioned last week that my parents had treated us to some nursery furniture – so this weekend we decided to assemble it. Flat pack furniture has never been my speciality but it took my husband and I a good two hours to erect the cot and changing table. The latter was very easy and all we need now is a lovely changing mat for it but the cots, particularly the side bars – were very tricky. Lets just say I will be happy if I never see an Allen key or any nuts and bolts again!
Pregnant women are notorious for their cravings and mine have only reared their head in the last few weeks. Citrus fruits are my ultimate indulgence; I could eat 3 or 4 large oranges in one sitting. I prepare pink grapefruit halves the night before for breakfast most days and I’m drinking gallons of orange juice! Surely this is a healthy thing as I have friends who craved strange things like strongly flavoured milkshakes, cheese strings and lots of chocolate so I don’t feel too bad about it. My local green grocer is very happy at least as I’m currently keeping him in business!
