Day 3: Heels and Cobblestones
Anyone who’s been to London Fashion Week will know the terrestrial characteristics of Somerset House and its ups and downs (literally!) – the cobblestones are deadly and the stairs down to the restrooms (the one without the queue around the block) are lethal.
Yet still we insist on finding the highest pair of heels, stacked wood platforms, pin-thin stilettos, chunky heels… Onlookers and street photographers both admire and fear the fashion crowd walking though the courtyard lest a wrong footing should induce a domino effect.
But the march is fast-paced, the next show is just a minute away; and during fashion week, it’s not just leg muscles, it’s the adrenalin and anticipation of a great show we run on. Although ironically, the only ones without heels on the courtyard are the models.
Heels and runways are another matter but this season we’ve been seeing a lot of pin-thin stilettos both in shows and exhibitions. A pair like these red heels from next might get you to catwalk down the street come spring.
