Hats and pleats. That’s the main impression I got from Day One at London Fashion Week. Hats and pleats and leather and lace, bit o’ fur and big fun cocktail rings.

Kristabel Plummer, fabulous London Blogger (‘I Want You to Know’, or iwantyoutoknow.co.uk) personifies this for me exactly. We know that bright colour blocking will be a feature, but Day One was such a cold day that it just felt premature to dress for spring.

Men’s hats: bowlers, trilbys, whatever as long as they look like you borrowed them from your man, were seen everywhere, on and off the catwalk (I shot the last two images on this post at the Caroline Charles show). It’s almost like hats are the new shoes.
