Christmas excitement and a snap decision!

So Christmas came went for the Crokers and how we had fun! The weekend before Christmas we went away to a rather amazing house on the East coast, 15 adults and 6 kids and pretended (more for the kids sake but saying that I didn’t see any adults complaining!) that Christmas had come early. We had a packed few days, mainly eating and drinking, but also pool games around a fab indoor swimming pool, long walks (to the pub!) and hide and seek with the kids in the best ‘nook and cranny’ house ever!! Father Christmas even made an early ‘special’ appearance which the kids absolutely loved and when the little ones gave in and slipped off to bed us grown-ups ate and drank more and played games, argued over a quiz and giggled more than ever before!

So, after meeting the bearded man himself (or so Fin thought – actually it was our good friend Stuart but who needs to know that?), by the time the actual big day arrived Fin’s excitement had peaked to a whole new level!  C Day arrived twice in our house – first at 6am and then again at half 7 (after Fin gave in and slipped back to sleep) – at which point we gave in and got up! Overwhelmed was an understatement, so by late morning both children fell fast asleep in the car as we drove down to the family home in Somerset to enjoy a feast! My other half is one of 5 boys who have all grown and had children of their own so you can imagine the madness of the celebrations; kids everywhere, noise and excitement, plus if you add a certain bouncy Springer spaniel and a fiery game of monopoly in to the mix you may come close to living it!! Fin and Imi were in their element playing with their older and cool cousins and we barely saw them over the 4 days spent away.

The plan was to spend a few days after Christmas with my brother, sister-in-law and their two children by the sea but their eldest contracted chicken pox so we double swerved that and returned to London feeling hardly refreshed but relatively chilled out. Once the craziness of Christmas was over and every present had been unwrapped (taking around 4 days) the next challenge arises; where on earth to put all the new toys? Only this time it’s twice as bad, this time round we not only have Fireman Sam action stations, radio controlled cars and a thousand pieces of Lego to contend with, no this year we have a pink pram, 2 tea sets and 15 (slightly weird looking) dolls to find homes for as well!

One thing I realised this Christmas was that I have now turned into a well established ‘mother’ type (just like my fond memories of my own) as I loved the presents that the kids casually tossed to one side, the swimming towel, the clothes and the pyjamas…don’t even get me started on the pyjamas – I LOVE a new pair of pyjamas! ‘Look, Fin, new pyjamas…ones with turtles on…Fin, Fin…’. Nope, with a raised nod Fin has moved on to the next present, willing it to be a shiny piece of plastic that makes loads of noise and needs 14 batteries to work!!

So Christmas for us was perfect, slightly crazy in parts but nice and chilled in others. And it was at this ‘relatively chilled out’ part (and with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in my right hand) that I decided that I would book return flights to Tenerife in early January! My Aunt and Uncle, who escape to their little island retreat for weeks at a time, would be there and had invited the kids and me along to join them. As Daddy the teacher would be back in the classroom by then, all I had to do was get us there so that meant 1 mummy, 2 kids and a 4 hour flight…easy right?! Of course the wine helped me make my snap decision and before I knew it my card details were in and the confirmation email had pinged into my inbox.

Our adventure was a mere few weeks away so don’t forget to catch my next blog where I shall tell all!!

Tiffany, I just read your 25 things and saw that you did atcually write…”we are adopting 2 kids, etc…” it’s in print. So, is it official? You’re really going for ethiopia? I’m so excited and I won’t feel so crazy when we adopt another one someday, hopefully! I wish CA wasn’t so far away. love to you!
