Fireman Sam comes to the rescue…
So much to do, such little time! Especially when you’re 22 weeks pregnant and you have a very mischievous, yet very lovable, 19 month old to contend with. Life can be pretty eventful, to say the least! I remember this stage of pregnancy with Fin (my mischievous little boy) – every kick was a wonder, every scan was cherished and everything was done ‘by the book’. This time round I barely get time to wonder if that was a kick or just a bit of wind! And as for the scans, it’s now a military operation for me and my husband to get Fin sitting quietly (usually bribed with some form of biscuit or the favourite; a box of raisins) just in time for them to do the necessary checks, show us our new beautiful bundle and send us on our way. Job done and another appointment over!
So bearing all that in mind, you can imagine my day to day life can’t you, cleaning the bathroom floor can be rather trying and as for cleaning the oven?…well you get it don’t you?! SO that’s where Fireman Sam comes in, don’t get me wrong, I’m not the kind of mum that lets their child sit and watch TV all day, far from it, we play and we build camps and sometimes me and my bump even pretend to be a lion (did I say that out loud?), the other day we even attempted painting (in the garden with old clothes and ample space to get creative – BIG MISTAKE – but that’s another story). So I don’t feel guilty about the odd episode of Fireman Sam – far from it – in fact, we even have emergency episodes stored up on Sky Plus (in between the film we will never watch and some American drama that I kid myself that I will ‘catch up’ on). I see it that if Sam helps me get my chores done that’s good enough for me.
As for today – its swimming lessons – me, my ever growing bump and my mischievous, yet lovable, little Fin splash about for half an hour singing ‘Old MacDonald had a pond’ (did he? I thought it was a farm but hey!)…it’s not all bad, I found the best maternity tankini at Next so although I may feel like a beached whale I don’t look like one AND best of all, all the splashing wears Fin out and he sleeps like a new born afterwards (I’ll clean the bathroom floor then) – as for the oven…now where is that emergency episode of Fireman Sam…?
