We don’t want to alarm anyone, but there’s less than 2 weeks until Christmas. Yes, eeeeek! But, despite that acidic feeling in your stomach – don’t waste your time stressing, a lot can be achieved with the right amount of planning. Working in the world of fashion means Christmas is on our radar MONTHS before anyone else so it’s sorrrrrrt of ingrained in us to get our heads around it pretty early on. Don’t get us wrong though, we’re not *great* at taking our own advice which is why we devised this post to get us (and hopefully you!) in that ‘conquer-anything’ mindset.
Don’t put it off
There’s way more to the festive season than buying gifts – but it is a fundamental part and therefore best to get the bulk done and dusted ASAP. Consider who is it you’re buying for… make a chart or list with each person’s name and the amount you’ve budgeted to spend (this should include your Secret Santa)! Then, over the next couple of weeks – either ASK if there’s something they would like, or jot down some ideas… by putting pen to paper (or thumb to screen), you’ll have surpassed the ‘blank canvas’ stage making purchasing a much less daunting prospect. Getting ahead is easy with our Order by Midnight for NEXT DAY delivery service, you can quite literally get it all done in 24 hours! More time eating, less time shopping – pretty tempting, huh??
Set the scene
If getting the Christmas decorations out of the loft fills you with dread, try deciding whether or not you *need* to transform your home into Santa’s grotto this year. When there aren’t enough hours in the day, sometimes it’s easier to take a simplified approach… Order a pre-lit tree online along with pared-back baubles, or dig out your fairy lights to create some festive ambience. Try popping them in a glass vase for a subtle nod to decking the halls – your guests will be impressed with your low-key vibes! Setting the scene is as much in the aesthetics as it is the smell. There’s something really nostalgic about that Christmas tree and festive spice fragrance, so by adding candles and diffusers to your home it should help elevate your festive spirit.
Get creative in the kitchen
One of the most important things about the festive season is FOOD. Food, and spending time with the people you love… and you can’t do one without the other. So rather than leave it till the big day to tuck into some brie and cranberry parcels, why not whip some up for a pre-Christmas treat? Plus you’ll have perfected the recipe come the big day. Here’s our go-to recipe for 12 parcels:
- 200g pack filo pastry
- 200g Brie cheese, diced to 1cm
- A pot of cranberry sauce
- 25g melted butter
- Cut filo pastry into 36 squares measuring approximately 8cm (3”) square
- Place the brie and cranberry sauce in a bowl and mix well
- For each parcel, take 3 squares of filo and arrange on top of each other at an angle to form a star. Place 1 tablespoon of the cheese and cranberry in the centre. Bring the edges of the filo up to form a parcel. Brush with melted butter.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 190 C / Gas 5 for 6 to 10 minutes, until crisp and golden.
Start a countdown
No we’re not talking about a daily status update on FB, we’re talking a good old fashioned advent calendar. Haven’t had one for years?? Bring it back! If like us you’re saddened by non-existent levels of Christmas cheer, remember how it used to feel opening the first day of your advent calendar! If you can nail getting prepped early, setting the scene AND treating yourself to some festive foods – your butterfly-fuelled anticipation will eventually return!
Bonus tip! Make a playlist
We know it sounds cliché but listening to Christmas songs evokes feelings of warmth and fuzziness! …Alright, we made that up – but even the frostiest of people can be thawed out at the sound of some Mariah, surely? Create a playlist and drop in the songs you love most during the festive season. We’re not suggesting you force them into your morning commute but listening to a bit of Wham while you’re writing your gift list will 100% inspire some good ideas, not to mention that festive feeling!
Don’t let the next 5 weeks get ahead of you, #Expressmas your whole Christmas shop (aka, taking advantage of our NEXT DAY delivery service) and enjoy *free* time for basking in the festive spirit. You can thank us in January 😉
