Last weekend we had a rude awakening, a very excited Cookie making a whining noise at an indecent time on a Sunday morning. What everyone had mumbled and grumbled about for weeks had finally happened – Snow! Cookie’s favourite thing in the whole world – more than tuna, more that chocolate drops, even more than playing catch with Meadow. For a small dog she absolutely loved burying herself in snow – like a small child! So we waited for Meadow to wake up and sleepily showed her the white wonderland that lay before her eyes. She reached out to touch the glass and I scooped some off the windowsill to show her- she wasn’t sure what to think! Cookie was still sat impatiently at the doorstep. So all four of us piled on the layers, I put Meadow in her big snuggly pram suit and a pretty pink hat and mitten set. I then dug out our wellingtons, hidden at the back of the cupboard discarded after last years snow storm.

Once suitably wrapped up we set off on a brisk, snowy walk. I thought the dog might have an accident as she was so excited! Meadow was snug in her Papoose and cuddled her face into my chest oblivious to the white stuff exciting our Jack Russell Chihuahua. We passed a little boy being pulled by his dad on a sledge, 3 teenage boys building a snowman and a fellow dog walker who had a near miss at slipping on an icy road. The corner shop and village square were full of excited kids in hats and scarves giggling and enjoying a snowball fight. I looked down to show Meadow the boys and girls having fun …and she was fast asleep – suitably under whelmed by the madness of the February snow shower. So we turned to head home with the dog going loopy in the 6-inch deep snow, rolling her back in it, rubbing her nose in it and scraping her paws in it.

On arriving home – hot chocolate was the perfect way to warm us up …and then a lovely Sunday Roast! Meadow loves her food and on waking, discovered a plastic tray of puréed vegetables, a large bottle of juice and a large fruit salad. She loves her food and she can feed herself now – small things like peas, sweet corn, blueberries and finger foods – particularly pepper sticks, olives and cucumber fingers. It’s amazing how far she has come with her weaning in just 3 months eating a huge range of foods and feeding most of them herself – although she thinks a spoon is for banging on her chair not putting in your mouth, she will soon learn…
