Living in a Chinese Laundry
We are on week five and I’m fast wishing I had shares in washing powder! Meadow Isabella loves a clean sheet everyday not to mention the nappies I’m washing and that’s before I start with the baby clothes and muslin squares. My lovely neighbour has a two year old and seven year old so we are both taking advantage of the good weather and littering our communal space with washing to dry in the sun shine. I’m averaging two loads a day – I think Robin and I had that amount each week! On the plus side the air smells deliciously clean as one of my friends pointed out.
As we didn’t know she was a girl until she was born most things are brilliant white, but lots of kind gifts of girlie pink accessories and outfits are flowing in from the mountains of visitors – my favourites being the beautiful hand knitted coats and blankets. That’s another thing I should invest in shares of – tea and biscuits, we have had so many well wishers! We got so many lovely cards I had to put up a string like I do at Christmas as we were running out of windowsills, tables and units to put them on. I am currently buried under a mountain of card, envelopes and glue making thank you cards, but as each day still brings another gorgeous new parcel I don’t think I will finish all the cards until Meadow’s first birthday!
This past few weeks I have learnt so much, feeding being the main adjustment! She’s such a fab sleeper I have to wake her to feed her at night, but during the day she’s a really hungry milk monster. This hot weather has caused me to bust out the steriliser and give her small bottles of water. She wasn’t sure at first but soon got used to it as the thirst took over. I love the heat but it doesn’t seem fair on the little munchkin so she has an abundance of sun hats and parasols, lets see what the rest of the British summer throws at us…

your daughter is beautiful, but cannot help think that you sound so resentful of your visitors, and the extra effort it taxes on you. I’d give a lung and a kidney to have your happidness in having a child…
please enjoy it, don’t take if for granted, it’s not a given for a lot of women.
Meadow is beautiful, enjoy every experience you have with her and enjoy the people that so obciously love you!
I am a grandmother of four. Thinking about it…babies are so delightful, but us oldies cannot keep with caring for toddlers anymore. I was browsing for gain coupons when I stumbled upon this blog. Take care of yourself and your baby. Best …
Thanks Mumay – she is growing fast but still loves Shirley the seahorse seen above in her crib!
I have no gtraeer pleasure than raising two boys. I used to think I really wanted at daughter and I’m sure if God had given me one I would have been overjoyed, but raising two boys was the ultimate. My prayer now is that somewhere out there a mom raised a daughter who can truly see the Godly qualities that we have instilled in them and will love them as much as we do. Enjoy every moment, because it will go by so quickly.
