I’m a self-confessed freezer for fashion; the notion of a coat makes me cringe and the prospect of snuggling up in a scarf and gloves sends me flying into rebellion. Yet this year, as I find my whole body chilled to the bone whilst I continue to parade around in my summer skirts and floaty tops, I’ve conceded it’s finally time to take some advice. Being at a complete loss at how to stay stylish and toasty at the same time, I decided to talk to some of the people who know best and this month took my camera and notepad down to the Universities at Medway campus in Kent.
It’s clear to see that a lot of people have a good deal more sense than me when they dress for winter weather and it was exceptionally hard to choose just a few. However after much chasing after people with a camera, which if anything helped to keep me warm, I’ve whittled it down to my top three!
Chloe Harding, a business accountancy student at Greenwich University, certainly knew how to keep warm in style. Warm and neutral coats are always a winter staple and this year oversized details are right on trend. Get the look yourself with this sumptuous Cream Knit Cocoon coat, with eye popping buttons, oversized pockets and an extended length. Whilst at £65 it may seem a bit of an investment, its neutral tones means it’s the perfect addition to any outfit and seems a small price to pay for eternal warmness!
Zoe Etheritge is studying midwifery at Canterbury Christchurch University and really shows how shoes can be the central point of an outfit, not just the last minute addition you chuck on at the door. These gorgeous tan and black boots add colour and interest to an all black outfit, with just the need for a few simple accessories to make the look complete. Next’s own Black and Tan Riding boots are also a highly practical addition for any winter wardrobe, just in case of any snow storms!
And finally it may not make you much warmer this winter, but Kirsten Ringelman certainly knows how to work statement hats! The journalism student from the University of Kent shows how easy it is to spice up any outfit, even a simple stripy top like this one here, with the addition of a statement piece. If you’re feeling bold then this Chocolate Floppy hat is guaranteed to add interest to any outfit, or for the slightly tamer among us this cute yet stylish Black Cloche hat is a steal at just £14. I guess they do keep your head warm too!
